Jury selection begins in kidnapping case involving Brazilian grandparents

Jury selection is now underway in the case involving a Houston child, his grandparents, and kidnapping charges.

Jury selection is going on right now in the alleged kidnapping case that stretches from Houston to Brazil.

More than 60 potential jurors are going through the vetting process and are being narrowed down to fill 14 seats.

Carlos and Jemima Guimaraes walked into court on Monday with their lawyers. They're facing international kidnapping and conspiracy charges.

The Guimaraes' are accused of helping their daughter kidnap their now 8-year-old grandson back in 2013 and then flee to Brazil. The boy's father is a doctor in Houston and wants his son back in Texas.

The grandparents are currently out on bond and for right now - the boy remains in South America with his mother.

Opening statements start on Tuesday and the judge says, the trial will likely last until May 25.
