ERCOT issues Weather Watch from June 25 - 30

ERCOT says a new all-time peak demand record could be set this week with several consecutive days of triple-digit temps in the forecast.

HOUSTON — ERCOT has issued a Weather Watch from June 25 - 30 when brutal triple-digit heat is back in the forecast.

An ERCOT Weather Watch just means they are expecting a higher-than-usual demand on the power grid based on the current forecast. Grid conditions are expected to be normal, ERCOT said, but operating reserves may be lower.

ERCOT’s 6-day Supply and Demand dashboard is showing the possibility of a new all-time peak demand record this week.

ERCOT announced on Friday that a new June peak demand record of 79,304 MWs was set on Monday, June 19.

Last summer, ERCOT set 11 new peak demand records, surpassing 80 GWs for the first time ever. The current all-time record of 80,148 MWs was set on July 20, 2022.

The Greater Houston Area remains under a heat advisory through Saturday night.

ERCOT has a system to alert people to grid notification. Signing up is a little involved. Here's how you can do that.

Texans can also monitor real-time and extended grid conditions here.
