East Freeway construction completed early; all mainlanes now open

TxDOT said the work being down on I-10 at Waco was also finished early and all of the westbound lanes have been reopened.

HOUSTON — All mainlanes of the East Freeway between I-45 to I-69 are back open after construction in the area was completed earlier than anticipated.

The section of the freeway was shut down Friday night so crews could hang bridge beams for the reconstruction of the Elysian Viaduct Bridge north of Downtown Houston.

The freeway was expected to stay closed up until Monday morning, but crews finished the project early.

The Elysian Viaduct Bridge project is aimed to widen the bridge, add shoulders and a wider sidewalk to Runnels and Ruiz streets, TxDOT said.

The project should be completed by late 2020.
