One dead, multiple injured in suspected intoxication crash in SW Houston

HOUSTON — One person is dead and multiple people have been taken to the hospital after a crash in southwest Houston.

Houston police said several vehicles were involved and the driver who caused the crash showed signs of intoxication.

The crash happened on Almeda Road near Reed Road.

Police said several vehicles were stopped at a railroad crossing light when the driver of a cream-colored Cadillac crashed into the back of one of the vehicles at a high rate of speed, causing a chain reaction.

A person in one of the stopped vehicles died on scene. About seven other people, who were in other vehicles involved in the crash, were taken to nearby hospitals. 

Police believe the driver of the Cadillac took some type of narcotics. Their condition is unknown. 

Almeda and Reed Road are closed in both directions.
