HOUSTON — An off-duty Houston Police officer opened fire on a suspect she caught breaking into her car.

Police are now searching for the suspect after he ran from the scene in southeast Houston.

This happened around 2 a.m. Thursday in the 5600 block of Flamingo near Reed and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Houston Police say the officer was inside her house when she heard something outside. When she looked at her cameras, she saw a man trying to break into her car.

She told police she saw him digging through her glove box, so she grabbed her gun and came outside to confront him.

The off-duty officer told police at one point the burglar turned towards her. She felt threatened so she fired a round at him. HPD doesn’t think he was hit.

Police said the suspect was described as a black male wearing a gray sweatshirt and red sweat pants.

Police say collected evidence so they can determine whether or not all polices were followed.
