HOUSTON — A mother is asking the public for help with finding the person responsible for shooting her 7-year-old son.
This happened on April 14 near Beechnut and Corporate Drive.
The 1st grader had to have multiple surgeries. His family said doctors told them it was a miracle he was alive.
"A mi me duele," said Silvia Alvarado. "Ver a mi hijo así. El no tiene la culpa de nada."
It hurts me to see my son like this, Silvia said.
Silvia said they went shopping at a garage sale just down the street from her apartment because her son Royder wanted some shoes.
"Yo escuche la bala, pero como si fuera tirar lejos," said Silvia.
She said she heard a bullet from far away and then noticed something wrong with her son.
"Mamá ayúdame me dijo, cuando lo vi se callo así," said Silvia.
Royder was calling for help as he fell over. Silvia said she hugged him and felt blood on his back.
"Yo gritando gritando yo allí" said Silvia.
Royder was rushed to the hospital where he had to undergo multiple surgeries to remove the bullet. His intestine was pierced twice.
Silvia said Royder saved her life because he stepped in front of her just seconds before the shots were fired, but one thing Silvia doesn’t understand is why someone would just shoot their gun out their car window.
"Yo vengo a este país para luchar con mis hijos," she said. "Y venimos a luchar, hay días que nos quedamos sin dinero al mes. Pagamos la renta y una persona viene a sacar bala en la calle y le hizo así a mi hijo no es justo."
“I came to this country to work hard with my kids," she said. "We’re here to work, hard. There are days where we don’t have enough money for the month. We pay our rent and there’s a person that comes and shoots in the street and did this to my son. It’s not fair.” said Silvia.
Houston police have released images of the suspects’ vehicle. They said it was a gray Toyota Avalon. They also said they’re looking for a woman who they believe might know the gunman's identity. See the pictures of the woman below.
"Lo que quiero yo justicia si es mujer si es hombre que valla pagar a la cárcel," said Silvia.
Silvia is asking for justice for her son, who is one of six siblings.
She said he will recover soon because he dreams of playing with his brothers again and becoming a soldier for his country.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, but if you have any information on the suspect, you should contact police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477. There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the gunman.
Meanwhile, the family has started a GoFundMe account to help with the medical expenses. Royder will still need another surgery to remove the colostomy bag.
