Utility worker hit and killed on Galveston Road near Webster

Crash investigators are at the scene, expect Galveston Road to be closed near Bay Star Boulevard for several hours.

HOUSTON — Crash investigators are at the scene of a deadly wreck near Webster.

Houston Police tell KHOU 11 News that a driver hit a worker who was part of a utility crew on Galveston Road near Bay Star Boulevard at around 10:40 p.m. Monday.

The worker died at the scene. Police say the driver drove down the street after hitting the worker, but then came back to where the crash happened.

Investigators say the driver was not intoxicated, and he is not facing any charges at this time.

According to a spokesperson for the police department, a private company was working to move a large piece of equipment and utility crews were out trying to make sure the oversize load would fit under power lines.

The Houston Police Vehicle Crimes Division has been called to the scene. Expect Galveston Road to be shut down, in the area, for several hours.

It's unclear which utility company the victim was working for, as several different companies were working in the area.
