HOUSTON — Good news -- there's an estimated time frame to finish up work on I-45! But that also comes with some bad news. It will take 18 years to complete.
The nearly $10 billion project will reconstruct the traffic artery that runs from downtown Houston north to the Beltway. The project will work in three phases starting next year, and lasting through the year 2042.
The Texas Department of Transportation is expected to hold public meetings to provide updates on the project, including future closures and traffic detours.
The expansion project moves forward after a federal civil rights investigation into the project's impacts on low-income and minority neighborhoods.
