HCSO: Woman dead after slamming into tow truck along North Freeway

All traffic is shut down on the North Freeway southbound frontage road. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the FM 1960 exit for now.

HOUSTON — A woman died after she slammed into a tow truck along the North Freeway Friday morning, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

According to Houston Transtar, the crash happened just after 2 a.m. on the inbound frontage road near Cypress Station Drive.

The southbound frontage road traffic reopened just after 7 a.m.

Deputies said there was an SUV stuck in the mud in the median between the main lanes and the frontage road heading south. A wrecker was trying to pull the SUV out when a Honda heading south disregarded the warning lights on the tow truck and slammed into it, according to HCSO.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. The tow truck driver saw the impending crash and got out of the way. He was out of the truck at the time.
