What big changes are coming to your next EZ Tag bill?

Several changes are coming to your EZ TAG bill ahead of an expected discount on tolls.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — If you spend a lot of time driving on toll roads in the Houston area, we have good news for you!

Several changes should be expected on your next EZ TAG bill from the Harris County Toll Road Authority.

Back in January, Harris County commissioners unanimously voted to drop the prices of tolls across several tolling points. Recently, several changes were approved to give drivers more flexibility on new and existing accounts.

Those changes include:

  • Your minimum prepaid toll balance (also known as your rebill amount) will be $10 for up to two vehicles, which is down from $20.
  • Your replenishment amount won't automatically update for existing EZ TAG accounts.
  • You won't be charged for up to eight new EZ TAG stickers per account. If you have more than eight stickers, each tag will be $2.
  • EZ TAG agreements are going digital and will no longer be mailed to users.

The minimum toll balance is also changing for drivers, depending on the number of vehicles.

One to two vehicles can have a minimum balance of $5. Three to four vehicles will be $10. Five to six vehicles will be $15. Lastly, seven to eight vehicles will have a $20 minimum.

In January, county commissioners also approved a change that would save drivers 10% on toll roads that are managed by the Harris County Toll Road Authority, including the Sam Houston and Westpark tollways and the Hardy Toll Road. The toll lanes on the Katy Freeway are not part of the deal, HCTRA said.

Officials hope to have the discounts in place by Labor Day.
