HOUSTON — Why can extreme heat be bad for your phone?
Summer in Houston definitely sizzles. And while the hot weather can be bad for humans, it also takes a toll on our phones.
Extreme temperatures can damage your phone’s internal components. If it gets too hot, you run the risk of losing data, battery drain or even a total shutdown.
According to Time, repeated exposure to heat could even cause your battery to leak, which can be dangerous.
It's pretty hard to avoid extreme temperatures in Houston, so what can you do?
According to AT&T, first things first: Don’t leave your phone in the car.
As hot as it is outside it’s even hotter in your vehicle. If you are headed to a beach or the lake, put your phone away so it’s not in direct sunlight. At the very least cover it with a towel.
Also store devices like your laptop and phone separately since they can conduct heat.
If all that fails and your phone overheats anyways, AT&T says the first thing you should do is turn off your phone. That's one of the fastest ways to cool it down.
You can also lower its temperature by removing the case, or putting it in airplane mode and fanning it.
Most phones will alert you when they get hot, but there are also apps you can download that will monitor your phone’s internal temp.
