Tailgating for the national title game? Here's what you need to know

Unlike other years, tailgating will be allowed ahead of the college football championship game in Houston. Here's what you need to know.

HOUSTON — The following information was taken from the CFP Playbook which you can read more about by clicking here.

Allstate Championship Tailgate

Allstate Championship Tailgate is the gathering place for fans who want to experience extreme tailgating leading up to the College Football Playoff National Championship. Open from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. CT before kickoff, Allstate Championship Tailgate is free for all game ticket holders and will be held in Blue Lots 16-18 south of NRG Stadium. Fans will enjoy interactive games, sponsor activations, concessions, live ESPN broadcasts and live performances by each team’s marching band and award-winning musical acts on the Capital One Music Stage. A national championship game ticket is required for entry to Allstate Championship Tailgate and all NRG Stadium security measures will be in place, including the Clear Bag Policy and the no Re-Entry Policy.

Tailgating

Tailgating is allowed in all NRG Park parking lots for the 2024 College Football Playoff  National Championship.

The following rules must be followed to tailgate in the lots:

  • Parking is first come, first served; saving spots will not be permitted.
  • Tailgating will be limited to the parking spot and space directly behind or in front of each vehicle, whichever is adjacent to the drive lane, but not blocking the lane. You may not tailgate beyond the blue lines marked in the drive lane.
  • Each valid parking pass is good for one 8' x 16' parking spot.
  • Barbeque grills in tow will need to purchase an additional space and be able to provide receipts upon request.
  • Open flames are allowed, but guests must extinguish flames before entering NRG Stadium.
  • For safety purposes, all tents, chairs, etc. must be put away before kickoff.
  • Large balloons are not permitted as decoration.
  • The use of golf carts, bikes and scooters is strictly prohibited.
  • Music should be kept to a minimum.
  • Please observe and obey the parking attendants and police when parking your vehicle.
  • You must park as directed by the parking attendants. Vehicles will be parked systematically, stall by stall, row by row, regardless of the occupancy status of the lot. Failure to park as directed can result in termination of your parking privileges.
  • Blocking or saving parking spaces is prohibited. Fans who wish to tailgate together must arrive together.
  • Fire extinguishers must have a minimum rating of 2-A:10-B:C and must be fully charged and available at all times.
  • Charcoal must be match-light or quick-light. The use of lighter fluid is strictly prohibited. Provide a metal pan under the BBQ pit to prevent ashes from falling onto the ground. Deposit coals in the orange containers provided. Do not throw trash in the ashbins.
  • Ensure propane connections are tight to prevent leaks. Drippings from gas grills must not fall onto the ground.
  • Keep the area clear of trash. Avoid allowing trash to accumulate around BBQ pits. Deposit trash in green dumpsters, not in orange ash containers.
  • Keep combustible materials at least three (3) feet away from pits. Placement of pits should be such that passers-by cannot come in contact with the pit. Watch for children playing in the area. Do not leave burning pits unattended.
  • Do not place hot pits or coals under vehicles. Allow time for the pits to cool.
  • The use of generators is allowed; however, fuel must be stored in (UL) approved metal safety cans with spring-loaded lids and flashback guards.
