Are your pets ready for hurricane season?

As hurricane season approaches KHOU 11 wants to make sure you family and pets are prepared for any emergency situation.

HOUSTON — The official start of hurricane season is right around the corner.

Instead of waiting for a storm warning from KHOU 11, get your ducks, or better yet, your pets in order now.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to assemble an emergency kit for your pet. Here are some things to include in that kit:

  • Leashes
  • Harnesses or carriers
  • Food
  • Water bowls
  • Litter pan
  • Manual can opener if your pet eats canned food.
  • Medications
  • Copy of medical records in a waterproof container or ziplock bag
  • Current photo of your pet so if it gets lost, it’s easier to eliminate any confusion when found.
  • Check your pet's microchip to make sure, that your information is up-to-date including your contact information, and your address.
  • Make a pet-friendly evacuation plan.

Remember, not every hotel allows animals, so, it's important to scout out, options now. Also, make sure, to include your pets, in any evacuation drills with your family so that you're prepared, for the real deal.
