HARRIS COUNTY -- A brutal and violent beating of a 17-year-old girl is getting worldwide notoriety, and the victim wishes it would stop.

The November 19 attack was recorded at an apartment complex on Mills Road near Cypress Creek Parkway.

Cypress Creek High senior Shamichael Manuel believes she was set up by a former friend and a group of other girls.

Manuel thought she was headed to a friend s place to pick up some of her belongings. She was wrong.

Cell phone video shows Manuel being punched in the face and kicked with relentless force.

I was just in shock. I was like oh my God. Did she really do this? You re supposed to be my close friend, Manuel said.

Manuel says she never saw the first hit coming. She s seen in the video lying curled up on the ground.

We were talking in school earlier that day. She made it seem like there was nothing wrong with her, explained Manuel.

The 16-year-old former friend, called by the name Sharkeysha in the video, was apparently upset over a boy.

A neighbor ended up coming to Manuel s rescue and driving her home.

The vicious beat-down left her with a black eye and a busted lip. She hasn t returned to school because she s had trouble seeing out of her right eye.

It is hurting and crushing to me, Manuel said. I felt humiliated and embarrassed and hurt at the same time.

The popularity of the video has made the humiliation so much worse. The video already has nearly 11.6 million hits on one web site alone.

The girl seen punching and kicking in the graphic footage has turned into an internet sensation.

Her name has even become a popular hash-tag and internet meme.

The video s just going and going. They re making jokes, and they re taunting. They re glorifying the girl Sharkeysha, but they re taunting my daughter at the same time, said mother Olevia Henderson.

Olevida Henderson has been trying to report the video online, but she feels there s nothing she can do to stop it.

I was in the grocery store, and the girl was checking out my groceries. The baggers were just laughing and talking about it. I said that s my daughter in that video, and their whole expression changed, added Henderson.

Henderson said she reported the beating to an assistant principal at Cypress Creek High School. She claims she was told nothing could be done because the attack didn t happen at school.

A report has been filed with the Harris County Sherriff s Office.
