U.K. man jailed for terrorist plot to attack U.S. troops

A British man has been sentenced to a minimum of 12 years in prison at Kingston Crown Court Friday for plotting to kill United States soldiers in the United Kingdom, police reported.

A British man has been sentenced to a minimum of 12 years in prison at Kingston Crown Court Friday for plotting to kill United States soldiers in the United Kingdom, police reported.

Delivery driver Junead Khan, 25, had intentions of staging a "road accident to draw soldiers out of their car, before attacking them with knives and potentially detonating a homemade bomb," according to the police report

A judge said Khan was a "committed supporter" of the Islamic State group  and handed down a life sentence with no chance of parole for at least 12 years, the Associated Press reported.

Khan was also found guilty, along with his uncle, Shazib Khan, 23, of prepping to go to Syria to join the Islamic State, the BBC reported

After a jury convicted Khan last month, Judge Andrew Edis said Friday that Khan "was not far from the commission of the murder to be committed by horrifying method in the street in order to create terror and terrorist propaganda in this country. His offense was so serious that a life sentence must be imposed," according to the BBC.

Digital forensic analysts retrieved deleted documents from his computers, including bomb making guides and terrorist propaganda, the police said. They also recovered evidence from his phone that included conversations with a suspected terrorist in Syria.
