Young boy who wandered from Baytown home hit by car, flown by Life Flight to hospital

The child's condition is unknown at this time.

BAYTOWN, Texas — A 5-year-old boy was hit by a car Tuesday afternoon after he wandered away from his home in Baytown, police said. 

The child was taken to Memorial Hermann by Life Flight in an unknown condition. He suffered a head and leg injury. 

This happened in the 3500 block of West Baker Road.

Baytown police said the boy left his home through an unlocked door while his mother was busy with one of her other children. 

He was hit by a 20-year-old woman driving a Nissan Juke Sport. The woman stayed on scene and is cooperating with police.

There are no signs of intoxication. 

Baytown Police Accident Reconstruction Officers are investigating the accident and how the boy wandered away from his home.
