Storms leave trail of damage in Houston area; tornado hits Mont Belvieu

The National Weather Service has confirmed it was a tornado that touched down in Mont Belvieu late Wednesday.

MONT BELVIEU, Texas – Severe weather left storm damage all over the Greater Houston area, including Mont Belvieu where a tornado touched down Wednesday night.

Air 11 and a KHOU 11 News crew on the ground found lots of damage in the Chambers County town. They saw windows smashed, fences torn down and an overturned trailer in a neighborhood off Lanai Drive. Power was completely out Thursday morning.

Our crew spoke to a family in the neighborhood who said they woke up around 10 p.m. to loud thrashing noises and windows breaking.

The family ran to grab their children to get somewhere safe. The explained it only lasted a few moments then all was quiet.

The family said their pump system for their pool was ripped apart. They also have holes in their roof from debris from other people’s homes.

The family added that their trampoline landed on the other side of Interstate 10.

In north Houston, winds from Wednesday night’s storms left a mess on Soren Lane. There were several downed trees, split in half, uprooted and knocked over fences. Some folks also lost power.

On resident said the winds knocked over a huge tree knocked over a portion of his fence. He added winds were howling Wednesday night, but he was grateful his home wasn’t damage and his family was safe.

In Galveston, organizers of the Lone Star Rally are working to clean up the area after the winds knocked over tents and over parts of their set-up for this weekend's event.
