PASADENA, Texas — A Pasadena woman was sentenced Thursday for killing her ex-husband in front of their 3-year-old son and several eyewitnesses.
Samantha Washington, 34, was sentenced to 25 years in prison and given a $5,000 fine for killing Gregory Kirk, 28. The two had been married with three children but were separated.
“This woman had a premeditated plan of attack to intentionally kill the father of her children and went through with it in broad daylight,” said Haris County District Attorney Kim Ogg. “It is an absolute tragedy that because of her, this man’s kids will grow up without a father.”
What happened
On May 11, 2021, Kirk was on his lunch break when Washington brought their 3-year-old son to his job so they could play. Washington then pulled out a gun and shot Kirk to death in front of their son and several witnesses, the DA's Office said.
Hours later she was arrested by the Pasadena Police Department.
Assistant District Attorney Matthew Magill said Washington texted Kirk a week before the attack and threatened to kill him.
“You can see on the surveillance video that she walked up, shot him and started to walk away,” Magill said. “As he was on the ground, begging for his life, she walked back and shot him in the heart.”
Washington must serve at least half of her prison sentence before she will be eligible for parole.
