Package with $1,000 item stuck at Missouri City USPS processing center, customer says

We've been reporting on packages being stuck at the Missouri City processing center for weeks.

MISSOURI CITY, Texas — A package with an item that costs nearly $1,000 has been sitting at a Missouri City USPS processing center for nearly two weeks.

For Greg Schulteis, it's not about the cost.

"It holds sentimental value to me over the years," he said. "It was something I was really excited to get. It's stuck in the Missouri City location like so many other people's items."

KHOU 11 was the first to tell you in December 2023 about packages being stuck at the Missouri City processing center.

The postal service blames the delays on network modernization, saying a new system is causing “some unintended and temporary” disruptions.

"This process, as with any such transition, takes time," a statement from the postal service said. "We are taking steps to ensure packages are processed as quickly and efficiently as possible and apologize to any customers who may be experiencing issues with delivery of their items."

Rep. Al Green, who represents the 9th Congressional District where the South Houston Local Processing Center is located, said he planned on taking a tour of the facility in hopes of resolving the issue.

“They [USPS] have given me assurances, but the assurances are not enough," Green said. "I want to tour the plant. I want to see the facility. I want to set some sense of how this will all work and understand how this south facility will work with the north facility."

USPS officials have previously said anyone waiting on a package and wanting specifics should call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777).
