GALVESTON, Texas -- Dr. Stephen Pustilnik, the county s medical examiner, appears to have been fired.
Late Tuesday afternoon Galveston County Judge Mark Henry said the county got word from the University of Texas Medical Branch that Pustilnik had been terminated.
UTMB contracts with the county to operate the medical examiner s office. Pustilnik is still technically the county s medical examiner. By law, only the county commissioners can appoint and thus remove someone as medical examiner. Still, since UTMB pays the medical examiner s salary, Henry said Pustilnik might be for now the medical examiner in title only.
