High water forces High Island ISD to delay school start Wednesday

Superintendent Travis Grubbs says at 8 a.m. Wednesday, the district will reassess whether to have school Wednesday or to delay the start even further.

One of the most popular destinations for visitors at the Houston Audubon Society's High Island sanctuaries is The Rookery at Smith Oaks. Some of the most common birds nesting there are Great Egrets, Tricolored Herons and Roseate Spoonbills.

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas - High Island ISD is delaying the start of school Wednesday until 10 a.m. due to high water on SH 87.

Superintendent Travis Grubbs says buses will also run 2 hours later than normal.

Galveston ISD announced Crenshaw Elementary/Middle School campus on Bolivar Peninsula will also begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday due to the unpredictable high tides.
