The shooting is under investigation by an outside agency, which GPD said is standard procedure.

GALVESTON, Texas — A man who police say assaulted a tree trimmer in Galveston is dead after being shot by responding officers.

It happened at around 10 a.m. Saturday along Avenue P near Moody Avenue. Investigators said when officers got there, they saw the man with a knife, who had reportedly assaulted the tree trimmer.

At some point during the confrontation, officers fired their weapons at the suspect, hitting him. The suspect was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston where he later died.

At this point, the suspect hasn’t been identified. According to the Galveston Police Department, the shooting will be investigated by an outside agency, which is standard procedure.

We don’t know the condition of the tree trimmer. Galveston police said paramedics were already treating that person when officers got there.

This incident was the third deadly shooting involving officers in the Houston area within 24 hours. On Saturday morning, Harris County deputies shot and killed a teen they said was armed with a semi-automatic weapon. And on Friday, officers shot and killed a man who they said fired at them from an apartment near downtown Houston.
