These Houston bars are getting into the holiday spirit

Some bars in Midtown and downtown Houston are ditching their usual decor and playlists for Christmas furnishings and carols.

HOUSTON — Many Houston pubs are jumping on the holiday-themed pop-up bar trend, which is taking over social media.

These bars are ditching their usual decor and playlists for Christmas furnishings and carols. Bartenders are even serving up some specialty holiday cocktails.

“This is the busiest week we’ve had so far, and it’s all of the holiday cheer," said Justin Ware, general manager of Winnie's in Midtown.

He's been throwing a Christmas party nearly every night for a month now.

Johnny's Gold Brick in the Heights has hosted its miracle pop-up for a few years now. Bartender Angel Salas said they've been just as busy.

"Looking at how busy we’ve been, looking at the sales, I’d definitely say this has been the busiest one," Salas said.

She has a theory as to why Christmas bars are such a hit right now.

"You’re mixing together two things that bring a lot of people together," she said. "Bars and Christmas. And I think that those just kind of go hand and hand if you think about it.”

In Midtown, Wonderbar is rocking around the Christmas tree. It's there you can get a selfie with the abominable snowman and cool off inside the deep freeze at their ice bar.

Not only that, bartenders are making a unique holiday drink called butter beer.

If you're looking for something a little bit more formal, you can head to The Big Casino bar in downtown Houston where patrons and severs are wearing their Christmas velvet and drinking from crystal glasses.

If you haven't gotten a chance to visit one of these bars, you still have time. Most will be open until the new year.

Remember, the holidays are some of the most dangerous times to be out on the road. Plan ahead if there's a chance you may have a few drinks. Get a ride with a sober friend or family member or take a ride share.
