HOUSTON - America's newest reality stars live right here in Houston.
Three veterinarians, who recently opened a practice in Cypress, are featured on a reality show on Animal Planet called "The Vet Life".
Drs. Blue, Lavigne and Ross have been friends since vet school at Tuskeegee University and recently, the friends became co-stars.
On the show, and in real life, they treat all kinds of animals at their Cypress Animal Hospital on Louetta and N. Eldridge Parkway.
It was Dr. Diarra Blue's sister who put the group on TV. She is a successful reality show producer of “Pawn Stars.”
"I didn't want to be on TV,” said Dr. Michael Lavigne, III. “I think I was the last one to finally make that jump but it's been better than I imagined it would be."
The three vets opened their clinic a year ago and have seen it all.
"I've been pooped on, peed on, anal gland on. You know, we do all that good stuff here,” said Dr. Aubrey J. Ross, II.
Dr. Ross grew up in the Houston area. His partners are from New Orleans (Dr. Lavigne) and Detroit (Dr. Blue). They agreed to locate their popular animal hospital here because of Dr. Ross’ Houston connection.
"Galena Park, that's where I'm from, born and raised, thank you,” Dr. Ross said
In January, Dr. Ross was in a horrible car wreck after someone T-boned him. It broke his pelvis and dislocated his hip.
"I was at home. I was out of work for three months so Dr. Lavigne and Dr. Blue had to work more,” Dr. Ross said. “I know without a shadow of a doubt they have my back. They are for me. They supported myself, my wife, my kids.”
“We didn't miss a beat. We don't mind,” Dr. Lavigne said.
The doctors said having the show is cool but what they really want is for young people to be inspired.
"Making sure that anybody that wants to be a veterinarian, they understand that they can do it,” Dr. Blue said. “If we can do it, anybody can do it. It just takes a lot of work, hard work."
