2 workers injured in oil tank explosion near Texas A&M Galveston campus

The workers are in unknown condition.

GALVESTON, Texas — Two workers were injured Tuesday in an oil tank explosion on Pelican Island, which is near Galveston Island.

Authorities said the explosion happened at a tank near the Texas A&M Galveston campus around 3:20 p.m. A temporary shelter-in-place order was issued but has since been lifted.

The cause of the fire is not known but firefighters said they believe it is under control.

The employees are in unknown condition.
