A wrong-way driver critically injured Thursday in a head-on, three-car crash was airlifted to a Galveston hospital, authorities said.

HITCHCOCK, Texas A wrong-way driver critically injured Thursday in a head-on, three-car crash was airlifted to a Galveston hospital, authorities said.

Rebecca M. Labaki, 31, was driving east on state Highway 6 in Santa Fe as she entered Hitchcock, Police Chief Clay Kennelly said.

No charges were filed Thursday stemming from the crash near FM 2004, but police were discussing the incident with the Galveston County District Attorney s Office, Kennelly said.

Hitchcock police received a call at 6:15 a.m. from Santa Fe police reporting that someone was following an erratic driver, Kennelly said. She was driving continuously in the turn lane and at some point crossed over as she was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes, Kennelly said.

Labaki s Ford car collided head-on with a Ford F-250, a large pickup, and struck a second car, Kennelly said. Neither of the other two drivers suffered life-threatening injuries, Kennelly said.

A medical helicopter took Labaki to the University of Texas Medical Branch, Kennelly said.

She s in extremely grave condition, Kennelly said. There was no indication she was under the influence of alcohol; however, there were numerous types of prescription pain medication in her vehicle. Police ordered a sample of blood, Kennelly said.

Charles Crockett, 57, of La Marque, was the driver of the F-250, Kennelly said. He was taken to Mainland Medical Center. Jackie Turner, 52, of Santa Fe, was the third driver, Kennelly said. Turner was uninjured, Kennelly said.
