HOUSTON - Officials responded to a fire at a LyondellBasell refinery in southeast Houston Wednesday evening.
The fire was reported around 7 p.m. at the refinery located at 12000 Lawndale Street.
According to LyondellBasell, the fire occurred in a cooling tower. The company said the tower was not in contact with hydrocarbons.
“(The fire) started to get big, bigger and bigger and I was just like well I just have to wait,” said George Garza, a neighbor. “I don’t know nobody that works at the plant as far as I know. I was just looking to see if it’s going to blow up.”
The plant’s on-site firefighting team, with support from the Houston Fire Department, contained the fire.
No injuries were reported.
