Doctor in The Woodlands has medical license suspended after being accused of fondling his patients

Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office arrested Dr. Kozhaya Sokhon, a cardiologist, at the AdvaCardio clinic Friday on a charge of indecent assault.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — We've learned more about the reasons a cardiologist in The Woodlands was arrested last week and charged with indecent assault by a healthcare provider.

Dr. Kozhaya Sokhon is accused of inappropriate sexual contact with multiple patients, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. The Texas Medical Board also suspended his license after learning about the charges. The suspension was effective immediately.

One of those patients was an 84-year-old woman. She told investigators that Sokhon came into the exam room and approached her from behind while she sat near her walker. The patient said he wrapped his arms around her and fondled her breast, according to court documents. The woman yelled, "What are you doing?" several times but said she couldn't get away.

She later told investigators that Sokhon didn't say anything and quickly left the room. As she was leaving his office, the woman said the doctor told her he loved her multiple times, court documents said.

She told a friend what happened and the friend Googled his name and found a similar complaint posted online five years ago.

"This doctor is a predator! My wife told me about inappropriate behavior he had with her!" the post said.

MCSO tracked down that couple and asked them about Sokhon. The wife said he made "creepy" inappropriate comments and touched her in a way that made her feel uncomfortable.

MCSO launched a lengthy investigation that uncovered similar complaints with the Texas Medical Board from multiple patients.

A 34-year-old woman said Sokhon grabbed her breast and was "handsy" multiple times during her May 2021 appointment. She said she "swatted him away" but he kept doing it.

A few months later, a 54-year-old woman complained that the cardiologist manipulated her with the "intention of engaging in sexual relations" while pretending to treat her for heart issues.

When MCSO investigators interviewed Sokhon about the allegations, he claimed he hugged the 84-year-old woman to calm her down because she was upset about the cost of a prescription and was worried she'd have another stroke. Sokhon said he told the woman, "Please I want your safety, I love you, I do not want you to have another stroke," according to court documents.

MCSO detectives arrested Sokhon Friday at the AdvaCardio clinic and took him to the Montgomery County Jail. The clinic's website lists him as the only cardiologist there.

Investigators believe there may be more alleged victims and they are asking any current or former patients who've experienced sexual contact while under his care to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800.
