Mother, 3-year-old shot during drug deal at NW Harris County apartment complex, deputies say

Investigators said at least two shooters were involved. One of them was shot in the arm and taken to a hospital in fair condition.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A mother and her 3-year-old child were shot Wednesday during a drug deal at an apartment complex in northwest Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The shooting happened sometime after 2 p.m. at the Point Northwest Apartments on Point Park Drive, just west of Highway 6

Investigators called this drug deal a "dope rip," which is a drug deal where someone is planning to rob the drug dealer. In this instance, the dope rip ended in a shootout which led to the woman and her 3-year-old child being shot. The child was shot in the arm and the woman was shot in the hand. Both were taken to hospitals where they are expected to survive.

Investigators believe several people were involved in the dope rip and one of them was also shot. He was taken to a hospital where he is expected to survive, investigators said.

An AR-15-style rifle was found at the scene of the shooting. Bullet fragments from a pistol were also found at the scene.
