Mega Millions: Hopeful billionaires shoot their shot

The dream of being able to buy what you want, when you want it, has proven too irresistible.

HOUSTON — The promise of a billion dollar payout has Texans spending and dreaming big.

As the Mega Millions drawing reached the coveted $1 billion mark Friday, Texas retailers prepared for long lines.

In a typical Powerball or Mega Millions drawing, Muhammed Mujahid may make about $200 to $300 a day. Before 6 p.m. Friday, he had already passed $1,800 in lottery sales alone.

Around the state, it was much of the same as Texans spent nearly $25 million between the last drawing until now. Two and a half million dollars were spent between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

“I’m hoping someone here wins, so I can get that percentage. Maybe take my wife on a vacation,” Mujahid said.

The dream of being able to buy what you want, when you want it, proved too irresistible for the next dozen people who walked in. Every person had a story of what they would do, given the opportunity.

Of course you have those who want the dream car, in the dream home and that’s where people like Anthony Nevotti of Ferrari Houston make their living.

As general manager, Nevotti said they’ve only had one lottery winner through their doors in 30 years.

It doesn’t mean Texans aren’t thinking big. Maybe priorities change with so much money in your hands.
