Watching the fires burn out of control in the Australian brush is heartbreaking and makes us feel helpless.
But we’re not.
You can donate to funds that help firefighters and the organization tending to the animals affected. While those ideas are getting a lot of attention, here are a couple of other ways you can help.
Plan a trip to visit Australia in the future. They will have a lot of rebuilding to do after the fires, and your tourism dollars will help.
If you've planned a trip to go down under, don't rush to cancel it. Many areas of the country are unaffected, and Tourism Australia reports it's still open for business. They do recommend staying up-to-date on the fires and air quality before you go. Read the statement here.
You can also “Buy from the Bush.” Paypal has a page that directs you to small town shops in Australia facing extreme drought. If you buy their goods, the money will go directly to them versus a big business. Check it out here.
