'I have never actually been on 99' | Texas couple gets billed for toll road trips they didn't take

Begga and Chris Hall received four bills this year from TxTag for trips they did not take.

GALVESTON, Texas — A Houston-area couple says they've been hit four times this year with toll road bills that aren't theirs.

"We live here on Galveston Island, I have never actually been on 99 (Grand Parkway)," Chris Hall, who got the first bill in January, said.

Bills followed in April, May, and July. They were small enough charges - $5, $10, $15 dollars that most people might not even notice if they don't check their bills closely.

The strangest of the bills came when the Halls were on vacation in Iceland. They have the pictures to prove it, but it didn't stop them from getting charged.

"I get the same answer every time, 'I'm sorry for the inconvenience' and I ask, 'Why does this keep happening?' and they say, 'Sometimes we can't read the license plate.' How do you go from 'I can't read the license plate' to that bill ending up in our mailbox?" Begga Hall said.

TxTag released the following statement to KHOU 11 News:

"The license plate in question was manually mis-keyed during Image Review.  The customer called on 7/5/23 and spoke to a Customer Service Representative regarding the issue, however, the license plate was not removed from the customer’s account until 8/1/23 resulting in an additional bill being generated. We have corrected the issue and the customer should not receive any additional bills for the license plate in question. We apologize for the inconvenience."

If you get bills you think are incorrect, start with checking online in your TXTag account. Make sure the correct license plate is linked to your account and contact TXTag you still see incorrect charges.
