'It's my passion': North Carolina 11-year-old spends free time mowing lawns for elderly neighbors

Quentin Hines has a passion most kids his age don't have. He loves mowing lawns.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Meet 11-year-old Quentin Hines. He has a passion for mowing lawns. That’s right, this 11-year-old boy is spending his free time beautifying the lawns in his community.

While most kids his age are playing video games, Quentin Hines spends most of his free time at Southwest Lawn Equipment.

"I just really love lawnmowers and it's my passion," Hines said.

And Quentin shares his passion by giving back to his community with his free lawn-mowing services.

"Because they helped me out," Hines said. "So I just wanted to return the favor."

But there's one particular lawnmower this 11-year-old boy has had his eye on for a while now.

"I want a Quest E-Series X Mark 42-inch deck," Hines said.

To afford the mower, Quentin has started a GoFundMe, which has already raised over $1,000 toward his $4,000 goal.

"If they give me, then I'll give it back," he said. "I'll give it back."

Quentin said with his new lawnmower, he’ll be able to help even more of his neighbors by mowing their lawns.

"Because I know, when they get older, they won't really be able to do it," he said. "So I just want to help them out."

Quentin said he's been visiting Southwest Lawn Equipment ever since he was just 2 years old. One of its owners, Carter Micklem, said they will personally donate to Quentin’s GoFundMe. And as soon as Quentin gets enough money to buy the lawnmower, Micklem said he will personally hand deliver it to Quentin.
