Tomball teen accepted to 15 colleges, credits dad for discipline, motivation

Jeramy Botwe, who is valedictorian at the Harmony School of Advancement, was accepted to eight Ivy League colleges and 15 schools total.

HUMBLE, Texas — A high school senior from Tomball has a big decision ahead of him.

Jeramy Botwe, 17, has to decide where he’ll go to school next year after getting accepted to eight Ivy League colleges.

Bowte, who is valedictorian at the Harmony School of Advancement, applied to 15 colleges and was accepted by all of them.

The impressive list of schools includes Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Brown, Rice, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, MIT, Penn, Duke, the University of Chicago, University of Texas and the University of Houston.

So what makes Botwe so successful?

He says it’s the motivation and discipline he learned from his dad, who is from Ghana and raised him as a single father.

“Growing up, he didn’t have the best opportunities for education," Botwe said. "When he came to America when he was a teenager, he decided to do everything he could to help us."

His father, Kenneth, said there’s no magic formula to raise a kid like his. He gives credit to his family and the team of educators who have guided his son at Harmony Public Schools.

However, it helps that Jeramy Botwe has always wanted to learn. Now he has a chance to do that on the pre-med track at the most prestigious universities in the country.

“I really don’t want to influence his decision. I want him to pick," Kenneth Botwe said. "All I ask is he give me a compelling reason why he chose that school. That’s it."

Jeramy Botwe will choose his school by the end of the month.
