HOUSTON — May 2 is designated as National Day of Prayer.
In 1952. a bill was initiated to create the day, but the first organized, national observance. It wasn't until 1983, one of the featured speakers was then Vice President George Bush. A proclamation just issued from the Whitehouse says, "We recognize the power of prayer to strengthen our spirits. Draw us together and create hope for a better tomorrow."
This year's theme is "Lift up the word, Light up the world."
Houston will host a prayer breakfast on May 29.
Alicia Alaniz and Roger Wernette with the Greater Houston Prayer Breakfast share more details about the upcoming event.
