LOS ANGELES — As you’re watching the Grammy Awards, you may notice that there are separate awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. In the KHOU 11 newsroom, we were talking about it after anchor Len Cannon asked the question out loud.

Of course, we went straight to Google to see if we could find the answer and we didn’t have to look too hard. We found it on the Grammy website…and apparently, Len wasn’t alone. It was the No. 1 story on Grammy.com's "Read list," so others had the same question.

Here’s the difference according to Grammy.com.

What is Record of the Year?

Record of the Year goes to multiple people behind the music, including the engineers, producers and artists. So basically, the multiple people involved in putting together a song.

What is Song of the Year?

Grammy.com says the Song of the Year goes to the person who wrote the song or created the song...so the artist.

If that still doesn’t clear it up for you, there’s a more detailed description on Grammy.com, including examples of Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
