Local businesses gearing up for the Houston Rodeo

You can shop and eat your way through the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo! A total of 300 retail and food vendors are participating this year.

HOUSTON — Millions of people visit the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo every year.

The three-week-long event generates a lot of money for the rodeo itself, along with local vendors and nearby businesses.

Mostly Chocolate, a Houston gourmet chocolate company, always competes in the Best Bites Competition.

Last year, they won first place in the dessert category.

“I love it because we get belt buckles. In Texas, they say you have to earn your belt buckle. I love that we’ve been able to do that,” said Dany Kamkhagi, owner of Mostly Chocolate.

Once you get to the rodeo, there’s no shortage of sweet and savory options.

The owner of Alamo Tamales says they sell more than 18,000 dozen tamales every year at their stands inside NRG Center.

A total of 300 retail and food vendors participate in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

So whether it’s for the business boost or bragging rights, the event is always a big deal for local businesses.
