Autopsy results bring new questions in case of woman found dead in vent

Autopsy and toxicology results in the baffling case of a young woman whose body was found in the ventilation system of a downtown Austin building have left investigators with even more questions.

AUSTIN, Texas Autopsy and toxicology results in the baffling case of a young woman whose body was found in the ventilation system of a downtown Austin building have left investigators with even more questions.

Jamie Minor, a 26-year-old hostess at the W Hotel, died from hyperthermia, the Travis County Medical Examiner s Office said.

Minor was fired from her job on May 23, the last night she was seen alive.

Her family would not say why.

People who saw Minor at the hotel that night said she was acting strangely. One witness described her behavior as manic, which is why colleagues called a taxi for Minor. She never took it.

Several weeks later, a maintenance man found some of Minor s personal belongings on one of the floors of the Norwood Towers garage at 7th street near Congress.

Investigators later obtained surveillance video that showed Minor trying to get into the Norwood Towers, presumably to see a friend who worked at a restaurant there.

But for unknown reasons, when Minor wasn t able to get in, police said she went to the parking garage and tried to enter the restaurant through the ventilation system.

She got stuck, and her body was found three weeks later.

Toxicology test results showed small amounts of the antihistamine Promethazine and small amounts of an anti-depression drug called Citalopram in Minor s system.

The chief toxicologist for the Travis County Medical Examiner s Office said alcohol would have also showed up in the testing even after three weeks if Minor had consumed, however, none was detected.

The medical examiner also said the toxicology lab has been developing tests for several of the newer psychoactive designer drugs, which they are now performing on Minor s remains.

It could be several months before those results are available.
