'No way to get out' | Walker Co. resident describes being trapped in his RV by floodwater

KHOU 11 was the only local news crew along Harmon Creek to capture the rescues, which wrapped up around noon.

RIVERSIDE, Texas — Heavy rain and storms Sunday night into Monday created high water spots in many parts of Southeast Texas, including Walker County. That's where residents in one community were brought to safety by boat.

KHOU 11 was the only news crew capturing the rescues along Harmon Creek in Riverside, which is northeast of Huntsville. Officials said dozens of people were saved from flooded properties by boat because FM 980 was impassible. Several dozen people were brought out from the back of that community.

The rescues were organized by Texas Task Force One, which consists of several agencies.

One resident told KHOU 11's Jason Miles that he was trapped in his RV.

“It started by around midnight, the bad weather, and by daylight, we had four feet of water in the area, five to six inches inside my RV,” said evacuee Jerry Jones. “No way to get out. My porch raised up. I had to get my son to pry the door open.”

Responding agencies included Conroe Fire and Rescue, as well as rescue crews from Huntsville and Walker County. We even saw a Coast Guard helicopter there as a support.

Fortunately, there was no word of any injuries.

Harmon Creek flows into the Trinity River, so water in the area was moving very swiftly.
