CONROE, Texas — Disaster relief organizations are preparing for an event on Monday to help those still feeling the impacts of last week’s severe weather.
While Southeast Texas is getting some dry weather in the forecast this week, the impacts of last week’s rain and flooding are still visible throughout counties north of the Houston metro area.
On Monday, the American Red Cross and Salvation Army are collaborating to bring relief to those affected.
Last week, heavy rain and flooding submerged people’s properties, forced evacuations for some, and even damaged infrastructure including some bridges across the area.
Many in the region are still recovering from all that activity. That includes some of the most impacted counties like San Jacinto, Polk and Montgomery.
The American Red Cross has had shelters open since last week, and today they are working with the Salvation Army to get resources to those who need it.
There will be a distribution site available today for those needing food and other emergency supplies.
That distribution will happen Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at River Plantation in Conroe.
There are also still some shelters activated in this region, including Plum Grove Assembly of God in Splendora and Lone Star Community Center in Montgomery.
