Part of Highway 290 to shut down Saturday in both directions for transmission line repairs

CenterPoint expects the shutdown to last 30 minutes, starting at 9 a.m.

HOUSTON — Heads up if you’re out and about on Saturday morning. The Texas Department of Transportation is shutting down Highway 290 in both directions near West 34th Street so CenterPoint can repair transmission lines damaged in last week's storm.  That includes the feeder roads.

CenterPoint said the shutdown will start at 9 a.m. and they expect it to be closed for about 30 minutes.

Transmission towers were toppled in Thursday’s storms. Nearly a million customers lost power when straight-line winds and two tornadoes caused damage all across Southeast Texas.

As of Thursday at 5:20 p.m. the CenterPoint outage tracker had 17,961 customers still without power.
