HOUSTON — Police are investigating a deadly crash that left one person dead on the East Loop early Thursday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
This happened at about 3 a.m. heading north near Clinton Drive. The investigation led to the freeway being closed during the morning rush hour causing a major backup.
Police said the driver of a blue Hyundai Tuscon was speeding heading north when he hit a white Peterbilt 579 tractor-trailer truck.
The Tuscon then left the roadway, slammed into a tree, and burst into flames.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the crash and pronounced the driver at the scene.
The driver of the 18-wheeler remained at the scene, was questioned and released.
The investigation is continuing.
