Driver dies in fiery crash along Beltway 8-West

Houston police are investigating a fatal incident along Beltway 8/Sam Houston Parkway.

HOUSTON – A 51-year-old man died early Monday in a wreck on Houston’s west side, according to police.

The crash was reported at about 6:30 a.m. It happened along the southbound frontage road of Beltway 8-West between Hammerly and Kempwood.

It appears the driver, now identified as J. Santos Loera, of a white Chevrolet or GMC SUV left the frontage road, struck four parked cars and then came to a stop in the parking lot of a business. His vehicle then caught fire.

Bystanders pulled Loera from the burning vehicle. Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police investigators are looking into what caused the crash.

As of 9:30 a.m. police were still on the scene. The main lanes of the toll way do not appear to be impacted, but Houston’s roads are still very wet due to overnight rain.
