Warren Moon joins Lance Berkman, Cynthia Cooper in 2024 Houston Sports Hall of Fame class

HOUSTON — Warren Moon was announced as being the final member of the upcoming Houston Sports Hall of Fame class.

Moon joins Astros legend Lance Berkman and Houston Comets legend Cynthia Cooper in the 2024 class. All three will be inducted at the 2024 Houston Sports Awards in January.

From 1983 to 1994, Moon made his mark on the NFL in a Houston Oilers jersey.

"The caliber of athletes that have come out of this city ... I don’t think there are too many cities that can compare," Moon said. "For me to be involved and for me to be a part of this team, it’s just an outstanding honor for me."

He won the Offensive Player of the Year award in 1990 and was elected to nine Pro Bowls.

Moon remains the Oilers' all-time leader in passing touchdowns, yards, attempts and completions.

"Warren Moon’s induction into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame is long overdue," Harris County - Houston Sports Authority Senior Director of Communications Daniel Gotera said. "As the leader of the Run & Shoot Oilers, Moon solidified himself as a sports icon in Houston and will forever be remembered as one of the best to play the game in this city."

After his years in Houston, Moon played for the Vikings, Seahawks and Chiefs. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

Moon played his college ball at the University of Washington before signing with Edmonton in the Canadian Football League. he helped lead the Eskimos to five straight Grey Cup victories. He also won the Grey Cup MVP in 1980 and 1982.
