Case Keenum to get start for Texans against Tennessee, per reports

Davis Mills has been CJ Stroud's backup all seasons, but Houston will reportedly turn to veteran Case Keenum against the Titans.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — At 7-6, the Houston Texans are in the thick of the playoff race in the AFC playoff race. They’re reportedly turning to a veteran quarterback to keep them there.

Rookie quarterback CJ Stroud, who has started every game for Houston this season, is out with a concussion. Instead of going with backup Davis Mills, the team is expected to start veteran Case Keenum when they take on the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Field in Nashville (12 p.m. on KHOU 11). That’s according to NFL.com and ESPN.

Mills was the starter for a struggling Houston team the last two seasons. Keenum, a star at the University of Houston and in his 11th season in the NFL, has the big-game experience the Texans will need, as the showdown with Tennessee may be the biggest one they’ve played to date this season.

Keenum started his NFL career with the Texans before stints with the Rams, Vikings, Broncos, Washington, Cleveland and Buffalo. His NFL journey went full circle, ending up back in Houston as the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart.

As for big games, back in 2017, Keenum started a playoff game for Minnesota against New Orleans, throwing for 318 yards while leading the Vikings to a last-second win that took them to the NFC championship game.
