Former Longhorn Xavier Worthy picked by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft

Worthy's draft stock rose considerably after breaking the record for the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.

AUSTIN, Texas — Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy will take his blazing speed to Kansas City

Worthy was taken by the reigning Super Bowl champions 28th overall on Thursday night in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Worthy's draft stock rose considerably after his record-breaking performance in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine in February, and he was seen as a likely first round pick heading into Thursday's first round.

Despite concerns about his size, Worthy was a consistent contributor while at Texas. He caught 197 passes in three years at Texas, racking up 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns in the receiving game.

Worthy also established a reputation as a dominant returner of both kicks and punts. In 2023, he accumulated 371 yards on 22 punt returns with one touchdown. It is likely the Chiefs will use him as a kick returner in the midst of the NFL modifying its kickoff rules.

Worthy will now join a Chiefs receiving corps that has experienced some tumultuous times over the last year. Regardless of the turmoil, the team was still able to win the Super Bowl on the back of arguably the NFL's best quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
