Dwight Howard has agreed to a contract with the Atlanta Hawks, a source confirmed to our sister station WXIA-TV.

Howard’s deal is reportedly a three-year, $70.5 million, although it can't be officially signed until June 7, per NBA rules.

Howard reportedly met with the Haws Friday afternoon at a Del Frisco's Grill in Buckhead, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta, according WXIA-TV.

Howard opted out of his contract with the Houston Rockets in June. The NBA’s free agency period began Thursday night.

Howard had been expected to opt out of the final year of his contract for some time given his disappearing role with the Rockets, his chemistry with James Harden and the potential for a huge payday in this summer's big-money, low-options market.

Howard is an Atlanta native. He was drafted by the Orlando Magic out of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy in 2004.

The Vertical was the first to report the deal.

CBS Sports contributed to this report.
