WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Houston Astros starting pitcher Cristian Javier was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Washington Nationals due to neck discomfort, the team announced ahead of the game.

Javier has a 2-0 record across four starts this season with an ERA of 1.54 across 23.1 innings.

Taking his place on the mound Sunday is right-handed pitcher Hunter Brown. Brown's recorded an 0-3 record during the 2024 season across four starts. He's had an ERA of 10.54 across 13.2 innings.

Brown was next slated to start on Tuesday, April 23.

Astros field reporter Julia Morales posted on X, formerly Twitter, that Javier will be placed on the injured list. Spencer Arrighetti is set to take his spot on the roster.

This comes just two days after Astros ace Justin Verlander made his season debut, returning from a rehab assignment. Verlander allowed two runs and four hits over six innings in a 5-3 win against the Nationals.

The Astros are 7-15 on the season and sit in last place in the AL West going into Sunday's game.
