'There’s a lot of effects that can have' | Man waits nearly a month for diabetes medication that bounces between Houston USPS facilities

Jerry Davis' latest batch of medication was expected on February 18, but it never arrived.

HOUSTON — Jerry Davis has diabetes and for six years he's had no problems getting his medication delivered to his home. That was until the Houston area started experiencing mail delays with the United States Postal Service

His latest batch of medication was expected on February 18. As of March 13, it still wasn't delivered.

“With the problems that they’re having, with the system here in Houston right now, it’s scary,” Davis said.

Jerry and his wife Donna used the post office's tracking feature to track the shipment of medication and said they watched the package bounce between the USPS North Houston distribution facility and the one in Missouri City. Both processing centers were at the center of months-long mail USPS mail delays.

“Sometimes the facility in North Houston will hold it for seven days before they send it to Missouri City,” Donna Davis said. “They’ll hold it for another four or five days and send it back to Houston."

They've reached out to the postal service but feel they're not being helped.

“We called, got on the chat line and filled out a complaint,” Jerry said. “We got an email last week that the complaint has been closed because they’ve resolved it and it’s been shipped to Bedford, Illinois.”

Jerry and Donna said they lost trust in the postal service but they can't switch shipping companies.

“We contacted the providers asking can you go with UPS or FedEx instead,” Jerry said.

“Can you do anything, we’ll pay extra, but they only use USPS,” Donna said.

Jerry said if he didn't get his medication, he would get really shaky and his blood sugar would get high.

"There’s a lot of effects that can have, it can affect my eyesight, a lot of my internal organs," he said.

KHOU 11 News reached out to the postal service for the latest on the mail delays and Jerry's medication. We were not given an answer as of Wednesday.

Last month, USPS said service is steadily being restored to the two USPS processing centers in the Houston area.
