Sheila Jackson Lee gets endorsement from Hillary Clinton in Houston mayoral race

"They will not regret their vote because they will have a mayor who will work 24/7 to do what she has said she will do," Clinton said.

HOUSTON — Houston mayoral candidate and current U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee drew support from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at an event on Friday.

Clinton reassured Houston voters that she believes Jackson Lee is the right woman for the job.

"They will not regret their vote because they will have a mayor who will work 24/7 to do what she has said she will do," Clinton said.

There was a bit of commotion during the endorsement when a protester disrupted her speech and had to be escorted out.

Jackson Lee is a frontrunner in the race for mayor alongside Texas state Senator John Whitmire.

Houston Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia has endorsed Whitmire.

Earlier in October, several candidates participated in a debate covering some of the most important topics for Houston voters, including crime, the economy and the city's infrastructure. Click here to read how the candidates responded.
